50 Cent was born in Queens, New York in the late '70s. 50 Cent lost his father at an early age and was only raised by his mother, who was pushing drugs to make a living. His mother was found dead on the streets in an unsolved case. 50 Cent was taken under the wing of his grandparents. 50 Cent really grabbed attention in the industry with the lyrics of one of his songs, joking about robbing big name rappers. The controversy turned heads and got his name in the light.

In April of 2000 there was a drive-by 50 Cent’s grandmother’s house in Queens. 50 was shot nine times, including once in the face. He was dropped by Columbia Records and spent months in the hospital. But 50 Cent bounced back with a vengeance. With the help of his good friend Sha Money XL, 50 came out recording track after track with no money, nothing at all. Together the two recorded over 30 tracks and 50 released “Guess Who’s Back?” in 2001. Then the unthinkable occurred. The biggest name rapper in the industry, Eminem, heard 50 Cent’s CD and claimed that this was his favourite rapper, hands down. Dr. Dre reaffirmed Eminem’s claim and co-signed 50 Cent. Months later 50 Cents tracks were raiding the airwaves.
