Madness where originally known as the Invaders in 1979. Inspired by the Prince Buster's track "Madness" this UK ska band took on the name and signed a one time contract with 2-Tone to produce the track "The Prince". This single climbed inot the UK Top 20. Madness is composed of Suggs (vocals), Mark Bedford (bass), Mike Barson (keyboard), Chris Foreman (guitar), Lee Thompson (saxophone), Chas Smash (vocals & trumpet), and Dan Woodgate (drums). Madness signed with Stiff Records and put together their next single "One Step Beyond", which came into the UK Top 20 at number 7. They continued with a streak of popular hits over the following two years with "My Girl", "Baggy Trousers", "Embarrassment", "The Return Of The Los Palmas Seven", "Grey Day", "Shut Up" and "It Must Be Love". "House Of Fun", off their 1982 album, The Rise And Fall, was the band's first track to hit at number 1. In 1983 member Mike Barson quit the band and they wouldn't be the same again. Three years later, after only hits that never matched those of their glory years, Madness announced that they were splitting-up. A year and a half later they came back together but still fell short of fulfilling their shoes of the past. In the late 90s, Madness reunited once again to produce new material. The new material included the track "Lovestruck" which bumped itself into the Top 10 in 1999, reassuring the world of their deserving spot in the hearts of many UK fans.
